Killswitch Engage Open Up Syracuse's New F-Shed

Opening a brand new venue with a metal show is probably not what the Regional Market had in mind when they opened their doors for concerts, but Killswitch Engage and the rest of the Disarm the Descent tour definitely did a good job christening the F-Shed in Syracuse.

They opened the show with the first song off of recently released Disarm the Descent “The Hell in Me” and never slowed down, rolling the next three songs off before taking a break for guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz to step up and get the crowd going with his usual antics, asking whether Syracuse preferred “women or pizza,” all the while dancing continuously around the stage in short shorts.

The crowd got especially involved when “The Arms of Sorrow,” “Beyond the Flames,” and “This is Absolution” were combined into a mid-set medley.  Also during this time, Adam took time out in the middle of a song to grab a badminton racquet and hit some shuttlecocks into the middle of the circle pit.

Newly reunited lead singer Jesse Leach paused before “Rose of Sharyn” to inform the crowd that they were being recorded to “study the patterns of circle pit movement” and then encouraged them to “make the nerds shit themselves,” which resulted in the largest (and longest, lasting for about 8 minutes) pit of the night.

Disarm the Descent clearly had the majority of the set list. Not stopping for their encore, Killswitch played straight through, finishing off the night with fan favorites “My Curse,” “The End of a Heartache,” and “My Last Serenade.”
The crowd was singing right along for most of the night, fully involved and showing love for the supporting bands Affiance, The Word Alive, The Darkest Hour, and Miss May I.  The entire show was full of energy and nonstop moshing. If the tour comes to a city near you, it’s definitely worth the price of admission.
