Korn, Device, and Love and Death at the Wellmont Theater

Jersey's Wellmont Theater had a line wrapped around the block on Wednesday night for a night with Korn, Device, and Love and Death.

Love and Death, fronted by Korn guitarist Brian 'Head' Welch were up first.
Head fronted the band to kick off his busy night with a set filled with bitter, angry songs. The band's material stayed true to Korn's distinct sound while incorporating some new and different elements, and was undoubtedly received well by Korn fans. The song "Chemicals" stood out in the set in particular. The track went out to anyone that had or is still suffering with addiction. Pained lyrics and hard hitting guitars set an eerie tone for the song, one that was evidently close to Head'a heart.

Device, fronted by Disturbed vocalist David Draiman during the bands hiatus, took the stage. The three piece band was an unusual sight to see, with merely a singer, Evanescence drummer Will Hunt, and guitarist Virus. Althougj there was no bass or rhythm guitar, the power of the instrumentals was still able to match Draiman's unbelievably powerful voice. Some tracks resembled Disturbed, including the band's first single "Villify."
Other tracks like "Out Of Line" and "Close My Eyes Forever" showcased Draiman's new sound and showed that Device is not trying to be Disturbed part 2. We were treated to a guest appearance from Russell Allen of Adrenaline Mob/Symphony X on "Haze."
Device closed up their set with "Villify" and a cover of "Wish" by Nine Inch Nails. The electronically influenced drum beats from Hunt fit with Draiman's distinct, rhythmic voice on "Wish" and the organized yet chaotic beat had everyone going crazy and warmed up just in time for Korn.

After a painfully long intro, drummer Ray Luzier was first to take the stage, sitting down behind his massive kit. Head'a return to Korn finally sunk in when he graced the stage for his second set of the night, walking out alongside Munky and Fieldy. Jonathan Davis followed soon after and jumped straight into "Blind," continuing with some of their older songs including "Twist" and "Ball Tongue." With the full band back together they had nonstop energy and were at their absolute best.

To finish off the night they played a three song encore that started with newer track "Get Up!" and "Got The Life" before closing an incredible night with "Freak on a Leash."
