Drowning Pool & Flyleaf Rock Irving Plaza

By: Nicole McKay

Christian rockers Flyleaf are currently on the road with Drowning Pool along with the up and coming female fronted Stars in Stereo. The lineup is interesting, given that Drowning Pool have had a rough time with singers, and Flyleaf recently hired current singer Kristen May following Lacey Mosely's departure from the band. Luckily, no one would have guessed that either of these bands had any issues based on their flawless sets.
Stars in Stereo have enjoyed some recent success, landing opening spots on tours with Blue October, The Used, and

Flyleaf. One of the few female vocalists in the rock world, singer Bec blew away the crowd with her powerful voice backed by heavy riffs. Within just a few minutes the band had done their job of warming up the crowd as they all jumped along to the upbeat tracks, soon to be released on the bands debut album.
To switch things up a bit, Drowning Pool were up next. A long shot from their touring mates Christian influenced music, the band came on stage to power their way through tracks like "Enemy" and "Feel Like I Do".  The set flew by from the moment it began as arms flailed and bodies flew threw the giant mosh pit. To close up their set the band of course played "Bodies", to which the crowd went insane, jumping and screaming along with the band as they shouted "Let the bodies hit the floor".
To close up the night was Texas' band Flyleaf. This was my

first time seeing the band with their new singer, and I had no idea what to expect, From the moment May began singing the opening song, "Again" I was blown away by the amazing range of her voice and it's power over the heavy instrumentals. The audience seemed to agree with me, die-hard Flyleaf fans that had been lined up since noon to get a close up look at their favorite band. The rest of their set included a mix of tracks from the band's three albums, with the hits "I'm So Sick", "Fully Alive", and their latest, "New Horizons".
