Poughkeepsie's The Chance Theater was literally packed full for a sold out show with The Offspring on Wednesday night. The band brought along openers Dead Sara and Neon Trees to what was the smallest venue of the tour, according to Offspring front man Dexter Holland.
Dead Sara made their way into the alternative music scene with their breakout hit 'Weatherman', scoring them a spot on tours with Chevelle, The Used, and slots on some of the nation's biggest alternative festivals. Singer Emily Armstrong's strong vocals carry the band. Their set was a great start to the night, pumping everyone up for the bands to follow.
Neon Trees' set was an energetic compilation of upbeat alternative-pop tracks that had the entire Chance bouncing in unison. Their recent mainstream success with 'Everybody Talks' and 'Animal' earned them countless new fans. The rest of their album didn't disappoint either. Each track lived up to the hits, and they put on a great show to warm us up for The Offspring.
90's alternative band The Offspring have never disappointed. Throughout their years together they've released a constant string of funny, lyrically driven alt-rock tracks that can't be mistaken for anyone else. 'Self Esteem' and 'Why Don't You Get a Job?' brought me back to my childhood. After years of blasting them on the radio, the band were finally in front of me playing them live. Each and every word was shouted along with by each and every person in The Chance, including security and bartenders. There wasn't a single downturned face or glued-to-her-phone teenager in sight throughout their set.
