Loren worked on lyrics for the tracks, yet Roberts continued struggling to find a singer. Loren decided to finish what he'd started with Roberts. saying "I began to look forward to working on his stuff more and more because it gave me a different set of challenges and liberties that I am not afforded in my own." Putting their heads together, the duo formed what we now know as Arco’s Angel. The album depicts an overall theme of loss and helplessness, contributing to what has become the album’s name, "Life’s Love Loss".
A single note in the very first second of “Of Buttons and Levers” introduces the intensity of what is Arco’s Angel’s Life’s Love Loss. The theme “Of Buttons and Levers” does not stray far from the album title. Loren’s lyrics and vocals build throughout the song and leave a lasting impression that will affect anyone truly listening. Roberts’ music translates the feelings of the song, starting off calm and then building up as the chorus comes in. The vocals and instrumentation complement one another as the story of betrayal is unveiled; a love that is no longer worth fighting for.
“The Rose” starts out with a hard, dark riff that directly translates with the lyrical contents of the song. As a song about vengeance, there is nothing hopeful about it. The story line will keep you involved in the song and yearning to know what happens next. Interestingly, some of the lyrics are reminiscent of those in HURT's "How We End Up Alone". The lines "If nobody seems to care, cause nobody else was there" spark the idea that there may be a common theme between the two tracks
Quite possibly one of the most mournful songs on the album, “Ready for Nothing” shares the story of a loss that happened too soon. The lyrics “I bought the roses in hopes that you knew/Just what I’d go through to hold you in this afternoon” set the tone for the entirety of the song. Loren’s voice contributes to the feeling of loss and the music’s slower, haunting sound reveals the feeling of helplessness that one may feel when situations such as these are out of their control.
Strong, penetrating guitar riffs make up what is “The Defeatalist”. The lyrics here need no explanation as they tell the tale all by themselves. You’ll listen to this song and find yourself bobbing your head to the beat; a beat that will quickly become engrained in your head.
“Southbound (playin’ with guns)” starts by slowing the album down a little with softer guitars and calmer vocals. The song picks back up almost halfway through with the signature sound that’s been demonstrated throughout the album so far. The music reflects the feeling of a hope and goodness that is just out of reach, complimented by the vocals and explained through lyrics of the song.
Electrifying guitars open what is “At Loss for Worlds” and continue to hold strong throughout the song. Loren’s vocal delivery is spot on and shows off his ability to make a song effective without having to exhibit a large vocal range every time.“Everything” ends Life’s Love Loss with the yearning of what could have been. Lyrics like “’Cause if I were king/ Yes, if I held everything/ I’d build us some wings/And fly back in time” demonstrate the want to hold on to something that was once good, but maybe had fallen apart.
Arco’s Angel’s "Life’s Love Loss" is set to self-release on March 21, 2013 available to buy and immediately download from ArcosAngel.com in multiple high quality formats.
